Wow !! Its been one of the boxing's most sensational fights tonight. We witnessed two warriors and not boxers fighting for their pride. But let me tell you I do agree with the referee's hard made decision,he had saved a life. The fight needed to be stopped to save a life of a boxer. However I could not refrain to put this round by round event as it happened on here for boxing lovers. Read and enjoy "". The article is taken from the BBC's sporting website.

As it happened

  1. 0014:
FROCH RETAINS WBA AND IBF TITLES
So, that's that folks. An epic contest which came to its conclusion by a controversial decision. Will we see Froch v Groves II. They want it, the crowd inside the arena want it and it seems the public want it.
Froch won tonight, but this saga is far from over.
    Thanks for all your messages.
  2. Paul in Sutton: What a joke, sometimes don't understand this sport. Absolutely gutted for Groves, such a premature stoppage was ahead and ended one of the best fights seen in years.
Anon: Groves was too arrogant, he needs a defeat to grow up and learn respect!
  3. David: Actually Groves eyes had gone, if Foster lets another punch go through resulting in Watson style brain damage he's slaughtered
Tom Lee: Groves was done. Ref saved his doctor's smelling salts
Darren Tonks: Groves has earned a rematch but if I was Froch I wouldn't want to take that in a hurry
  4.
    BBC Radio 5 live
Fight promoter Eddie Hearn: "Both fighters put everything on the line tonight. George was sensational - he shocked everyone with his performance. I've never seen Carl down like he was in the first round, a rematch makes sense.
"There's always the argument you should be given every opportunity but, for me, George was hurt late on. He looked like he was out on his feet to me. If it went on another five seconds, I'm not too sure if George could have done anything. You have to think of the safety of the fighters. I expected the fight to be more technical, but it was clinical in the end."
  5.
    Ben Dirs, BBC Sport
"Wow, what a fight. Not sure the referee would have been so compassionate had it been the other way round. I should add that referees have a very difficult job. You never know, he might have saved a life."
  6. GET INVOLVED
Alex Mitchell: As a Froch fan it should not have been stopped and Carl needed a stoppage or knock out to win. Groves really impressed me.
Brian Lewis: Stop was a bit early however if he hadn't had stopped it then Froch could have destroyed him.
Ian Paris: The referee panicked. He stepped in too early. Should of let the fight continue. Groves deserved and earned the right to continue.

  7.
    BBC Radio 5 live
Carl Froch's trainer, Robert McCracken: "It was a good stoppage, George was badly hurt - he couldn't continue. He did fantastically well, he's a great talent, he's only 25 and his time will come again.
"Carl Froch showed what he was about and ground him down, but George did very well. Carl defended the titles massively well. I think people will see when they watch the replays how badly hurt George was. Carl has nothing left to prove, he's stopped Groves."
  8. FROCH RETAINS WBA AND IBF TITLES
Right. Many, many of you seem to be suggesting that Groves should have been given longer. At first I thought the stoppage was premature, but then I saw the replays - he was gone, really gone. The referee then took a look at Groves, who then fell into his arms. Maybe Groves should have been given a chance to go down and get up.
  9. GET INVOLVED
Ken Frost: Has to be a rematch after that decision
Ryan Gosling: That fight was a joke groves smashed him and got robbed
Daniel Griffin: What the heck was Froch on about? Groves must've knocked him stupid! Only sensible thing he said was suggesting a rematch!

  10. 2341:
FROCH RETAINS WBA AND IBF TITLES
Froch, Groves and promoter Eddie Hearn have called for a rematch. Fancy that?
  11. 2337:
FROCH RETAINS WBA AND IBF TITLES
George Groves tells Sky Box Office: "I'd like to say I have immense respect for Froch. I hope after today he'll have more respect for me. I tried to shake his hands, but he didn't have any of it - but then he came and said some kind words. I was getting boos and now I'm getting cheers in front of these amazing fans. I'm so proud to come here and give this display - I know I'll be a great fighter. I had this taken away from me unjustly."
  12. 2339:
FROCH RETAINS WBA AND IBF TITLES
Referee Howard Foster stops Carl Froch (right) and George Groves
Carl Froch tells Sky Box Office: "It was a fair enough stoppage. I felt I had a couple more free shots on him and I was lining him up for the uppercut. He was struggling, that last one or two shots can do great damage in this sport.
"The referee has to make a split-second decision; it's the referee's decision. I don't have any sympathy for [Groves], you have to put yourself in the referee's hands. As a fighter, I've never disrespected him, I respect him as a fighter.
"He has earned more respect from me as a fighter... as a person he has been very childish and very rude. He's held his hand up proudly tonight, he came in to the arena tonight to boos and is leaving with cheers."
  13. GET INVOLVED
Calum Smith: Never should have been stopped. Fair play to Groves.
Ryan McCarthy: That was a robbery, first stumble and he was stopped, got off lucky there Froch.
Gareth Evans: That is not the ending that fight deserved.
Chris: Groves gained the respect of the boxing world, should have been allowed to carry on
  14. 2331:
FROCH RETAINS WBA AND IBF TITLES
Carl Froch (left) and George Groves
There's the official announcement - Carl Froch is still the WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion. The boxers are talking to each other in the ring. There's no kiss and make-up here though - Groves still looks aggrieved. The pair finally shake hands.
  15.
    Steve Bunce, BBC boxing pundit
"I'm not sure what to make of that, Groves was defending himself. It started with boos and its now ended with boos and they are not boos against Groves they're in support of Groves."
  16. 2328:
FROCH RETAINS WBA & IBF TITLES
Groves couldn't believe referee Foster stopped it, but the replays suggest that the London fighter's arms could not defend against the barrage. Don't go away, this could still get ugly.
  17. 2324:
FROCH WINS IN THE NINTH ROUND
Referee Howard Foster stops Carl Froch (right) and George Groves
Groves lands two right hands then a left in the opening minute. But Froch opens up with a crashing left hook - the experience is showing. Froch has got Groves on the ropes. This is it. This is it. Groves is not responding - referee Howard Foster calls a halt to the fight. Eh? Froch wins. You read right. Froch wins. Boos ring around the arena. Surely the ref should have given Groves a few more seconds?
  18. 2320:
    ROUND EIGHT
    Carl Froch and George Groves
Froch pushes Groves on to the ropes but then falls into the challenger - the referee separates. Froch is then warned for a deliberate use of the elbow - that's not smart from The Cobra. It's a grown-up playground fight in the last 10 seconds as both launch flurries - few landed. Groves has a cut just above his eye, but he should be OK.
  19. GET INVOLVED
Andrew Priestley: We all knew that Groves could talk the talk, but very few of us thought he could walk the walk. He's walking all over Froch here.
Ryan Cowie: Didn't get the fight on pay per view but I don't care - this must be the most exciting boxing match I've ever read about.
Remon Ahmed: Froch has got a lot of ground to cover if he wants to turn this around.
  20. 2316:
    ROUND SEVEN
Groves lands another superb right hand with a minute remaining. Froch has got the defence of a Kevin Keegan side. Both fighters needed a breather after the sixth. I don't blame them. They might go again in the seventh. What has Froch got left? Groves looks fresher.
  21.
    Steve Bunce, BBC boxing pundit
"One of the best rounds of boxing we have seen in years, they stood toe to toe and landed so many shots. I thought Howard Foster was about to make them take a break, the question is who is the most tired after that round. Halfway I think George is up by three points."
  22. 2313:
It looks like Groves is winning on points - but I can't see this lasting the distance. Someone has got to go. Surely.
  23. 2311:
    ROUND SIX
Groves lands a big left hook in the first minute, then a clubbing right hand and a left-right combo. Groves then punishes him with a left to the face then one flush on his nose. Froch is still standing. But how? How? Froch then rockets one into Groves's face. This is Rocky stuff. Froch is on the front foot and lands a combination of his own. Groves is wobbling. Bell - wow, then wow. I'm scared.
  24. 2308:
    ROUND FIVE
Froch's attacks look more desperate rather than calculated as he gets Groves on the ropes. The 25-year-old has lasted five rounds - he hasn't tired, but then Froch's punches have landed at the side of Groves's face or body and caused little damage. This will now be a test of Groves's stamina.
  25. Carl Froch and George Groves
  26.
    Steve Bunce, BBC boxing pundit
"Groves did have the upper hand in that last round, but Froch is finally getting a bit of belief for the first time in the fight. What is alarming is that he is being out-jabbed. He is turning his head away and being hit on the side of the head."
  27. 2303:
    ROUND FOUR
Fourth-round chess with jabs exchanged by the pair - most failing to land. Groves lands a more powerful jab at Froch's forehead and follows it up with a huge right hand which forces Froch's head back. At least the champion didn't wobble.
  28.
    Steve Bunce, BBC boxing pundit
"That period there, where Froch managed to get Groves on the ropes, he couldn't maintain it. Carl Froch is struggling, he is ailing. I have never seen him like this before."
  29. Matt: Am I the only one that can see Groves winning this?
  30. 2259:
    ROUND THREE
Groves has got the Eye of the Tiger at the start of the round. Froch has got the bigger reach - 77in as opposed to 73in - but he seems still to be sizing up when to attack his younger challenger. But what's this? Froch explodes and launches a flurry of punches. He's hurt Groves. The London boxer has purple round his left eye. Bruising.
  31.
    Steve Bunce, BBC boxing pundit
"I thought Froch in the last 20 seconds seemed to be regaining and recovering his head. George is instantly going to a very defensive position. It isn't as wild and reckless as it looks."
  32. 2256:
    ROUND TWO
    Carl Froch and George Groves
What a comeback by Froch - the veteran lands a couple of big right hands in the opening minute. No wobbling from Froch - The Cobra is made of stern stuff. That was a breather of a round from the champion, who seemed to be recovering from his first-round mishap.
  33.
Adam Booth, Former trainer of George Groves
"I knew that George could hurt Carl. When Carl sat on the stool, he was in a bad way. George is a good finisher, if he can get his cool composure and land a punch early in the second round, this fight is over."
  34. 2248:
    ROUND ONE
Seconds out... what a sensational start from Groves. He floors Froch with a left-right combo to the face with 10 seconds of the first round remaining. It's only the second time in Froch's career that he's hit the canvas. Froch got back up - epic opening round.
    Carl Froch and George Groves
  35. 2247:
    FROCH V GROVES
The MC introduces the boxers. Boos ring around the arena again as George Groves is introduced - I'm sure he's a lovely lad. Froch receives another wonderful reception - his crew hold up his WBA and IBF super-middleweight belts behind him. The corners clear the ring - just three men remain.
  36. 2244:
    FROCH v GROVES
George Groves's former trainer Adam Booth: "They've been talking about the fight for a long time - I believe George can beat him. It's the speed that will let him get to Carl before Carl gets to him. It's about who chooses the right thing at the right time. When he's got his head on and not bad-tempered he [George] can win."
  37. 2241:
    FROCH V GROVES
It's God Save the Queen time - they're playing the long version. Froch goes through some routines inside the ring. Groves is stripped and ready.
  38. GET INVOLVED
David Whitworth: Reckon Froch will be too strong and classy for Groves tonight. Predict a 6th round finish for the Cobra.
Oliver Viney: Groves all talk and now Froch will do the talking when it matters with his gloves. Froch to win inside 8 rounds.
Matt: Groves to learn a big lesson in respect tonight and the big difference in a world class level.
  39. 2239:
    FROCH V GROVES
Carl Froch comes out to Oasis's What's The Story Morning Glory to a huge roar. A clever choice. I can hear the music as well as the crowd, who are singing along to the '90s classic.
  40. FROCH V GROVES
    And now for the cheers....
  41.
Mike Costello, BBC Sport boxing commentator
"A mixed welcome for the challenger but it must be said mostly boos, his big night has arrived. The night he has been working towards for so many years. The crescendo of boos increases as he heads to the ring. This is a sport for strong men and George Groves will have to hold it together now."
  42. 2236:
    FROCH V GROVES
The lights are out - the spotlights are on Groves, in a blue T-shirt, as he marches into the arena. The boos are a lot louder than the cheers - a lot louder. I can't hear what music they're playing. It's very loud. Have I mentioned the noise?
  43. 2233:
BBC Radio 5 liveFROCH V GROVES
    Promoter Eddie Hearn:
"They don't like each other, when you've been in camp for 12 weeks and you come face to face on fight night you just don't know what will happen.
"There are so many different ways this fight could go and that's what makes it so fascinating. I'm close to Carl Froch but when they get in the ring, it's up to them. Carl has been there, done it and got the T-shirt but he is 36 and George feels he can take this chance. He's got a hard job, though, because Carl Froch is a determined individual."
  44. 2232:
    FROCH V GROVES
First up, we have the challenger from London - "Saint" George Groves. Mike Costello is on the mic on BBC Radio 5 live - I'd advise you to tune in.
  45. 2230:
    FROCH V GROVES
    The gladiators are coming out.
  46. 2230:
    FROCH v GROVES
Carl Froch's trainer Rob McCracken: "He's in a good place - he's healthy. It's a big fight again and Carl always has big fights. He's dangerous is Groves, but Carl's been training for it and he's in good condition. The British boxing public will be the winners tonight."
  47. GET INVOLVED
James Clewer: Froch is going to prove tonight he's just too good for Groves. Younger man looking foolish all week, predicting 4th round KO.
Chris: Froch win, mid fight KO. Groves leaves himself too open. Groves will start strong but Froch's experience will see him through.
Richard Wilson: Groves to come out strong in early rounds, but Froch's big fight experience will tell eventually. 10th round TKO.
  48. 2227:
    FROCH V GROVES
We're coming up to ring-walk time. They are getting a little bit impatient inside the Manchester Arena.
  49. 2223:
WHAT HAS CARL FROCH GOT LEFT?
    Carl Froch
Froch, for many of his 11 years as a pro, had been considered one of the most underrated British boxers.
Then in 2009 he went over to the United States with his WBC belt at stake and stopped Jermain Taylor, the former undisputed middleweight champion, in the 12th round.
What followed were some classic encounters against Andre Dirrell, Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward which all went the distance, with defeats against Kessler and Ward.
But he got his revenge on Kessler in May with one of the best displays by a British fighter this century to retain his IBF crown.
"It was an absolutely sensational fight, we will never see that again," said former world light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton.
Froch is at a Rocky IV stage now - does he have the legs against the younger bulldog?
  50. BBC SPORT FACEBOOK
We've been asking for your predictions over on the BBC Sport Facebook page, here are some of the best:
Michael Pearson: I'm going Froch ko between 6-7.
Phil McAlary: I'd bet an arm & leg on FROCH! unanimously.
Paul Cardow: Froch is 12-1 at least to win in any given round. Giving money away.
  51. 2218:
    BBC Radio 5 live
    Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell:
"It's going to be a cracking fight, you can tell by the 20,000 people in here. They've both had good camps and will be looking to entertain the crowd.
    "This is every boxer's dream."
  52. 2216:
    WHO IS GEORGE GROVES?
Trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick and George Groves
Now on to the big fight. So who is George Groves? That was a question some might have asked prior to his fight against 2008 Olympic champion James DeGale back in 2011.
Before the British title bout, DeGale said: "He thought he was going to the golden boy of British boxing, but he had to watch me get the glory instead."
That might have lit the fuse inside Groves, who recorded a points victory over his former sparring partner.
Hammersmith-born, his pro record now stands at 19-0 (15 KO) although he recently parted company with David Haye's trainer Adam Booth, who had been with him since the start of his career.
"It's nice having someone in your corner who you trust and respect but sometimes you don't have that and when you don't, it's time to move on," said the 25-year-old.
Irishman Paddy Fitzpatrick will be in his corner.
  53. 2213:
    QUIGG RETAINS WBA TITLE
    Scott Quigg v Diego Silva
The chief support of the the Froch v Groves undercard was Bury fighter Scott Quigg in his first defence of his WBA super-bantamweight title against Diego Silva.
The contest lasted all of one minute and 41 seconds into the second round when the 25-year-old knocked down his Argentine opponent for the second time.
Earlier, Olympic bantamweight gold medallist Luke Campbell overcame Welsh boxer Chuck Jones on points in their four-round contest. The 26-year-old was expected to fight Morgan Duthes, but the Frenchman failed a brain scan.
I remember speaking to Campbell in Loughborough before the Olympics - his physique's changed a bit. What a unit.

  55. 2210:
    FROCH V GROVES
George Groves (left) and Carl Froch
"He wants me to come in and be really nice and shake his hand and say can I be a friend afterwards and thanks for the opportunity, but the fact is I've shown up knowing I'm going to win and he's struggled to live with that."
That was George Groves in the week leading up to tonight's humdinger of a Battle of Britain against WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion Carl Froch.
There has been plenty of cattiness in the build-up to the fight with Froch, 36, casting himself as the "goodie" and 25-year-old Groves the "baddie" although it's been PG certificate compared to Chisora v Klitschko - ahh, the memories...
But the pantomime season is over, we await what could be the best all-British rumble since the Nigel Benn v Chris Eubank fights of the 1990s.
